Plan in California to Test Commercial Jet Noise Abandoned. The Los Angeles Times reports that a plan, proposed by a Supervisor from California's Orange County, to conduct a demonstration of aircraft noise at the El Toro Marines Base has been rejected. The plan was designed to show residents what commercial flights -- which would operate around the clock if a proposed commercial airport is built there -- would sound like.
Proposed California Joint Military Base/Commercial Airport a Bad Idea. The Los Angeles Times recently printed the following letter to the editor by Jon Simmons of Camarillo, California:
Gas Leafblowers Banned in Los Angeles Residential Neighborhoods. The article notes that using gas-fueled leafblowers in Los Angeles will now cost gardeners a $1,000 fine, if the use occurs within 500 feet of a residence. The fine is levied under a new law passed by the city council.
California Residents Voice Opinions on Proposed Airport at El Toro. The Los Angeles Times reported that there seems to be little consensus concerning the proposed conversion of the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station to an international airport in Orange County, California, based on the following non-scientific sampling of quotes from area residents:

National Parks Need Stronger Air Tour Restrictions. An editorial in the Los Angeles Times claims currently proposed laws that would restrict tourist flights over national parks aren't an effective compromise between air-tour operators and the preservation of quiet in the parks.
California County Considering Tougher Noise Law. The Los Angeles Times reports that the Ventura County, California Board of Supervisors may allow police to issue noise citations.
California Planning Commission Endorses Airport at El Toro. The Los Angeles Times reports that the Orange County, California Planning Commission supported an environmental study of the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station that suggests that the creation of a commercial airport would be acceptable.
Los Angeles Council Postpones Vote to Ban Gas Leaf Blowers. The Los Angeles City Council was supposed to vote on a proposal to prohibit the use of leaf blowers, but decided to postpone its decision. Residents were upset at continued delays, and said that "If we have to take it to a ballot, we will, and we'll win it on a ballot." Despite the lack of a vote, an amendment was added to the proposal to allow equipment that acted as a vacuum for leaves.
California City Votes to Ban Fast Food Drive-Through Windows at Night. The Santa Monica City Council prohibited drive-up windows at restaurants from operating at night, after residents complained about noise and traffic from patrons. The rule would only apply in residential areas.
